The Air You Breathe is a magnificent work of cultural historical fiction and is definitely one of my favorite books of the year.This novel contains all of the aspects I seek in literary fiction: a well-paced plot, beautiful yet clear and engaging writing, and richly drawn characters.Music is a theme that is incorporated into the plot, but The Air You Breathe is really driven by the fascinating journeys of Dores and Graca. I also loved learning about historical Brazil and classic Hollywood while simultaneously being entertained by the story.This novel is completely engrossing and unforgettable. Highly recommended!

Confined my reading to bedtime, but found it difficult to stop and go to bed. Great book, gripping story. I had to exert great will to put it down and go to sleep. Recommend it highly. Could have used some footnotes to explain the slang used as part of the culture, but still worth it. I was completely immersed in the story. How I love a good book!!! I am always so sorry when it ends.😢

This book is a riveting, searing keening about the myriad and intricate ways we demand and need love, like air. The story is unabashed and raw in its emotional honesty. The writing is pure and translucent. The eyes of Dores, the narrator, are unrelentingly piercing. Those who love stories that captivate will not be disappointed. Those who long further—for a narrator who speaks into the complexities of truth, loyalty, foolishness, and hate will find deep reward. This book will make you ache, and will not give you answers. But it will stay with you, and always tell you the truth. A must read.

One of the most original books I’ve read, the book is like a lyric that moves you through so many emotions. It’s beautiful and tragic. One of the best books in my extensive reading list!!

this author has created a beautiful story about the music and the characters whose lives are defined by it. at times their lives mimic the music and at other times, the music is created by the very facts of their circumstances. The author has created characters of complexity, beautiful in their vunerability and totally identifiable by their flaws. i look forward to more from this author

I read this book and then purchased it for my 90 year old aunt. We both enjoyed it so much and saw different things in it due to our different perspectives.

It starts at the beginning and the end.... the story brings you on a journey of life long friends and musicians with Brazil’s history as a backdrop. Loved it!

I liked they way the codependecies & the bisexuality were portrayed

How To FInd Love in a Bookshop was a recommendation from my dear friend, M.J.Rose, and I knew after she gave me the synopsis and her thoughts on the book this was something I just had to read. Well, she was not wrong. I enjoyed every page of this sweet, emotional, and charming tale!This book is different from many I read in the sense that it follows a few different people as opposed to one main character or couple and I loved that change of pace! Nightingale books, and it's owner, have been fixtures in this charming town for what seems like forever. It's when the beloved owner passes away that we step into this town and follow the journey of the owner's daughter, his friends and customers, and the love he's left behind. Each character gives a beautiful layer to this emotional and heartfelt story and each character is delightfully multi-faceted with a charm all their own. I felt as if I were a part of this town and this journey and at one point I got a little sad that I didn't have a bookshop of my own like this, to visit and chat with fellow book lovers on an afternoon. But just as soon as the sadness came, it disappeared when I realized that, while I may not have a physical place to visit, I have built a whole on-line world with friends who adore all things bookish as much as I do! Love to read stories set in small English villages. This one was no exception. The heroine. Emilia, wants nothing more than to make the Nightingale Book Shoppe fiscally sound to honor her father's memory. The reader has to be patient in the beginning to get through the father's back story and then learn about the various village characters who will eventually each come to the store's rescue. But if the reader makes it that far, the rest of the story is a delightful telling of love and support.

I loved the story and I loved the characters. It was one of those books that is fun to read when you need a lift. I looked to see if the author wrote a sequel but was disappointed there is none. I hated to see it end. In fact I could not find any other books by this author that were on kindle.

Like most books in this genre, the ending is too happy. Everything works out for everyone just as a benevolent fairy godmother gazing over the town would have wished. That being said, the story was worthwhile. The various characters were well-drawn, and all were interesting in their own ways. The knitting together of all their subplots and how they relate to the main character was well done. And being a book/bookstore lover, it was interesting to read the problematic details of keeping Nightingale's afloat after the death of Emilia's father, Julius. The impact of books (and Julius) on the novel's characters was also insightful. Not a typical selection for me, but I enjoyed it for what it was.

One of the things I love best about this cookbook is whether you have an Insta Pot or still love your stovetop pressure cooker, you can make these dishes. I am a huge fan of my Insta Pot and hardly ever use my crockpot or stovetop pressure cooker, although my husband prefers the stovetop. These recipes are not only Keto friendly but family friendly. Like another cookbook I have, I know that my kids would eat any of the items listed and in many cases, want to make it prior to me being home in an effort to help out. Insta Pots have become a way for even the busiest of us to not choose something quick and unhealthy. Instead, you can have delicious, healthy and quick. Even better is that a lot of these foods are in my Keto Meal Plan. Eating on a whim has never been made easier.

This book makes eating a ketogenic diet not only easy but delicious! I cooked the philly cheese steaks for my parents who used to live in Philadelphia and said that it gives an authentic taste without the carbs. The recipes are so simple to follow and so packed with flavor that I don’t feel like I am deprived from great tasting food. I recommend this to anyone looking to make flavorful meals with keto!!

Downes begins the book with some of the very basics of keto cooking and a more in-depth explanation of pressure cooking and cookers.The recipes start with the basics (like condiments), breakfast, vegetables and sides, soups and stews, fish and shellfish, poultry, beef and pork, and ends with desserts. There are over 80 recipes, each with prep times, amount of time to cook, what type of release is used, and total cook time.It also includes calories, carbs, fat, protein, sugars, and fiber as well as macronutrients and if there are any special dietary restrictions such as dairy-free, gluten-free, nut-free, or vegetarian. Downes completes the book with pressure cooker times charts and other resources to make converting recipes to the pressure cooker easier.This isn't your typical cookbook. I found these recipes to be very different from the Instant Pot (it's what I have) recipes that I had been researching and very different from the keto recipes that I had seen. There's definitely some fancier recipes like creme brulee and beef bourguignon. There are multiple international recipes as well.I think that this would be a great book for those wanting to use their pressure or multicooker as well as eat keto. The big thing is that the Essential Ketogenic Diet Pressure Cooking book claims to be low-effort, big-flavor keto recipes for any pressure cooker or multicooker and it lives up to that claim.I received this book in exchange for an honest review.

The recipes we've tried in our Instant Pot so far have been very tasty!If you limit dairy, the author provides alternatives to milk products in most of the recipes. With all the non-dairy options, Paleo eaters should be able to use this book as well.Recipes we've tried:-- Hungarian Mushroom Soup (p.78) | My 12 year old daughter made this recipe with supervision but mostly independently. Everyone in my family ate it and asked it be put in regular rotation, including my 7 year old.-- Creamy Artichoke Chicken (p.122) | Absolutely dynamite! There is a sense of despair throughout the story which really does a lot to sell the mood and circumstances of the protagonist. I highly recommend this!I've had to write extensively about this story and the accompanying essays and it has helped me shape my understanding and opinion. The essays included after the story are thought provoking although I disagree with some interpretations of the story.

The book leaves you wondering though it all. I have heard that it was a unsettling and interesting book, but on the contrary I found it moving and a little disharding . I felt for him , he worked for his family and they basically abandoned him . It is definitely a good book to read .

The work is still wonderful, but the critical edition includes topics and thought-provoking essays. I bought this when my granddaughter was reading it in high school and wanted to discuss it with me.

Well done. I also like all the critical information added.

This book is simple to read and understand. It is well organized in the information provided. Very helpful overview of foundations.

The book may have some simple ideas if you are starting a multi-billion dollar foundation. Other than that it was basically useless information.

The book covers the basics on starting a foundation. But then the authors explained much more is needed to start a foundation, which the book does not cover.

This book is an excellent primer that should be read by staff and trustees of Foundations and by people thinking about setting up a charitable foundation. In a short number of pages, the authors lay out the basics of philanthropy in a readable and surprisingly thorough way. It reviews both technical issues (e.g., the rules about establishing a foundation and types of foundations) and substantive issues (e.g., how a foundation should think about having "impacts" on the issues it focuses on). I worked in philanthropy for many years and wish this book was available when I was hiring new staff or welcoming new trustees.

As a new Board member of a relatively young nonprofit, the National Physicians Alliance, which may be considering creating a foundation, this is an invaluable publication. In my view, a must for anyone contemplating the foundation/nonprofit challenges.

I'm not sure how a person writes a whole book, covering a bunch of very interesting shipwrecks, and ends up with such an un-interesting book… what's not interesting about a shipwreck… All I can figure is that it was the writing style, maybe, but I had a tough time finishing it without really skipping around. I have to believe that given the subject matter, it could have been a much much better read.

GREAT BOOK,

Whenever I am not actually diving, I spend my entire day immersed in research, research and even more research. I spend a great deal of money on books and have a fine library. Many of those books are quite excellent, other less so and occasionally I get some which are quite poor. I cannot remember, however, the last time I got a book about shipwrecks where I actually learned nothing at all. Unfortunately, that is exactly what I got from this very poor offering from Mr Fine - absolutely nothing. Furthermore, the quality of both paper and photographs are quite abysmal.According to the nine-line "bio" of this author at the end of the book, John Christopher Fine has all the, qualifications, attributes, experience, ability and even reputation to produce an excellent book about shipwrecks. Seems to me, Mr Fine has decided to rest on his laurels and publish in the expectation of his reputation selling his books.Perhaps he can tell me where I might get a refund?NM

Although the sub-title of this book implies that it is about diving, I find that this book is more about the ships themselves, and how they sank than about diving on them. And there seem to be so many books like this one on sunken ships that you have to kind of have to be surprised to see that there are any ships still afloat.This book pretty much covers the world. It has sunken Roman ships in the Med. Spanish treasure ships bring back gold and silver from the Ne World. Ships from various wars seem to litter the ground in places like Scapa Flow. There is much more coverage of the Atlantic areas than of the Pacific.Mr. Fine clearly loves the ocean and its collenction of sunken ships. It is clear that he has carefully researched the ships he is writing about. I found the book hard to put down.

I was really disatified with this book. I just can`t really find much good to say about it. The pictures,the few that was in book were more about cannonballs and jewelry that were found on some ships.The author wrote alot about how some ships were built but didn't tell how some of the ship even looked under water or the damage they had taken to sink.In my opinion the sunken ships in the pacific ocean were not covered enough. If you are interested in sunken ships I would avoid this book at all costs.
