Ill have to admit, i went into this book with a pessimistic attitude based on all the information put out there by some of the MM, the Dick Grobs, Priscilla Beaulieu, the Shirley Dieus and Linda Thompsons brother/one of elvis body guard. After reading it, i was forced to look at the whole picture and started discovering MANY lies and inconsistencies being told about Elvis & Ginger. Its really disturbing the lengths they go to discredit this relationship.As for the book itself, it was quite refreshing to not have to read yet anothee book filled with snarkyness towards others. Ginger was very professional and stuck with facts, leaving any hate filled inuendos out if it. A certain MMPrincesswannabe could take lessons from Ginger Alden!!Hopefully Ms Alden will write another book! Only this time tell ALL the dirty little secrets about those around Elvis that shes been holding on to all these years ðŸ˜
The book is enjoyable reading. Some new insights into Ginger and Elvis' relationship. We'll never know if Elvis was really going to marry Ginger or not. There's ample evidence in the book that Ginger believed they were getting married; but, not sure if Elvis was committed to marrying again. Ginger treats Elvis with respect; and, is honest about their life together.
Ginger Alden is a lovely Southern gal, and her book about Elvis is not a shocking expose nor does she harbor any ill feelings towards his exes or entourage. She just explains the good parts about her life with Elvis, his charm, thoughtful ways toward her, his generosity to herself and her family, and little tidbits about his personal habits that are endearing rather than embarrassing. I found it a pleasant read, and thought what a nice person she was, and that Elvis appeared to be happy in his personal life with her at the end, although he could not conquer his own demons that led to his tragic demise. She is very discreet about what happened when she found him unconscious in his bathroom, only that she called others to help, and tried to stay in the background during the later hysteria. Those who write mean things about this woman have loyalty to his ex wife and daughter, but she smears neither one in this book, and just offers her own personal compassionate portrayal of the man she loved
I'd seen some Youtube interviews with Ginger Alden and had no reason to distrust her version of events when beginning her memoir. Unfortunately for her, I did pick her book up just after reading Linda Thompson's own memoir, which includes her time with Elvis. There could not be a bigger difference between two memoirs.Linda is a talented writer and a deeply kind, intelligent, generous person. She is gracious about and appreciative of every person who has crossed her path in life. Yet, she's honest. She has a way of telling the truth, and not whitewashing another person's weaknesses, without tearing that person down. (And, she had nothing negative to say about Priscilla or Ginger -- in fact, she notes the loving and loved role each had in Elvis' life.)Ginger, unfortunately, has none of Linda's gifts. As her book went on, and on, and on, she got in plenty of digs, mostly at Linda, some at Priscilla, and even one at Lisa (!!). She clearly feels (to this day) inferior to Linda. She took every chance she got to try to convince the world that Elvis loved HER (Ginger) more than Linda and that Linda (according to Ginger) did (supposedly) many crappy things, such as spend Elvis' money once they broke up, tell tabloids untruths about Elvis, etc. Ginger also got the dig in that Elvis broke up with Linda, not the other way around as Linda (and others in their circle) maintain.Ginger comes across as a big eyed, sweetly smiling, yet thoroughly catty, 8th grade girl. She also comes across as shallow and blah. Her book is a plodding account of every tiny thing she and Elvis did in their 9 months together. And almost none of those things are interesting to an outsider. Linda's book, on the other hand, gives a real peak into Elvis as a person. I came away from that memoir liking Elvis, despite his flaws, more than I already had. (As an aside, the thought crossed my mind several times that Elvis seemed to really take a shine to Ginger's sister Rosemary, and I wondered if he at times wished he'd selected Rosemary to date initially, instead of Ginger.)It was clear Ginger felt slighted at the funeral, by not being treated as the special person in Elvis' life that she was. It might be understandable that she (at 20 or 21, at the time) felt that way and was, immaturely, wrapped up in her own need to be recognized. It's pretty strange that the woman she is now (decades later) still has the EXACT same take she did at the time. She's not matured one bit.As other reviewers have noted, the fact that Ginger and her family sued Elvis' estate after his death is shocking. He had promised & planned to pay her mom's house off. It didn't happen before he died. He had given Ginger and her family members cars, furs, loads of highly expensive jewelry, etc. They could have sold some of it and easily made house payments. (Not to mention that, because her parents were getting divorced, Elvis had, before his death, paid Ginger's dad for his half of the equity in the house that Ginger's mother was going to keep.)Ginger comes across as someone who is soft spoken and gentle; yet, you just scratch the surface of that gentleness and what you get is a woman who is all about herself.
This is December 19th 2018 I just started Elvis and Ginger the first thing is that they could have tweaked it a little bit at the beginning of the whole book. For one thing my age people start decreasing with their eyes and can't see as well yes there's always magnifying glasses I wish they had bigger letters for this book I'm a big-time reader and I always gotten big print at my age well what I'm going to have to invest in is a magnifying glass with light in it but a free-standing one I don't like holding a book and a magnifying in the other hand beware the people at a older age be sure to have a magnifying glass. I will give you an update later on in this book no doubt it's going to be juicy
I enjoyed reading Ginger's side of the story and very glad I got to read the book. I had always read in those gossip magazines how she was after Elvis's money but in reading her story I can tell that was clearly the opposite. I always thought Ginger was beautiful( and still is) just like Priscilla was. I was really young when Elvis died but even as a young girl I loved Elvis and bought all the special collector magazine issues that came out. Ginger was so sincere and I am so glad she wrote the book. I couldn't put it down each night I kept on reading and reading.
