This is undoubtedly the best and most helpful book on perfectionism that I have ever read. I had never fully recognized how perfectionistic I had become in my work as a physician and how the perfectionism was actually hindering my providing optimal patient care rather than helping. I also knew that I wasn't being the kind of mother and wife I wanted to be, but didn't realize that it was perfectionism that was getting in the way of my doing things for and with my family. Dr. Syzmanski's book has been extraordinarily helpful in the way it distinguishes between helpful and hurtful perfectionism, and it provides excellent strategies for dealing with the hurtful perfectionism so it no longer is in control of one's life. I have shared this with 12 of my colleagues, and every one of them has come back and talked about how helpful the book has been to them and also to the patients with whom they work. It is an outstanding book, one which I would highly recommend to anyone who is struggling with perfectionism, or even wonders whether they might be.

I think this a great book for understanding both the positive and negative aspects of perfectionism as a personality trait. It has a lot of self-assessment questionnaires within it, which is something I wish I had known before purchasing the E-book instead of the paper version. It is written in a common-sense manner, and brought a lot of clarity to the issue without being overly dense and academic. It has helpful suggestions for ways to combat the negative aspects of perfectionism as well. While definitely not an overly expansive volume on the subject, it was all I was looking for in this book.I'd definitely recommend for anyone who considers themselves a perfectionist.

This is great practical, bare bones advice for busy, ambitious people who have the anxiety but not the desired results. Today's world incites high states of readiness to do it/get it done! Not always a good thing to achieve your goal. If you are always tired or second-guessing yourself, but feel like you fall short, well - this book may tell you why. Buy it.

I agree with the other positive reviews below. The content is excellent, and it is well organized and easy to read. i found it most helpful that Dr. Szymanski does not characterize perfectionism as either positive or negative, but as a trait that can be viewed as part of a continuum, and one that can be helpful in some circumstances and detrimental in others. As a person who works in a field where perfection is rewarded and often necessary, this approach allowed me to re-evaluate areas of my life where it was neither necessary nor desirable. I have given this book to several people (including my accountant, who I hope will continue his perfectionism in his work but be freed from its tyranny in other areas) and they have all found it very helpful.

Love it. Would have liked more research but this is really for a lay audience. I will recommend to patients.

Really enjoyed the plot of this one. While not as enjoyable as Summer Knight, it definitely beats the Book right before it. Dresden dealing with three crazy necromancers vying for godlike power? I love it.On the other hand, I did feel like this book missed many chances to establish its villains better. While the Dresden Files are at their best even dealing with eldritch powers outside of human ken, this time the villains were human. I would have liked to see them more like people, especially Cowl, before the end. I feel like it would have given the ending more power.However, I really enjoyed this one and would recommend it.One final note - As these books go on, they're becoming more and more self-referential. Long passages are spent describing events from previous books. I understand that the author included these for first-time readers, but the summaries are getting a little frustrating. I hope he tones them down a little soon.

His (newly discovered) half-brother Thomas is now living with him in Harry's tiny sub-basement apartment; trouble is, Thomas, a seductive White Court vampire, can't hold a job (his female co-workers keep throwing themselves at him). It's been almost six months since I read the last Dresden Files book and I was left wondering why I'd waited so long. These books are truly extraordinary, with strong characters, a compelling mystery, and enough action for four books. Here, the evil vampire Mavra blackmails Harry into finding a book of black magic for her. There follows hunting for clues and battles with necromancers, aided by his brother Thomas, Butters the coroner, his werewolf friends, and a fallen angel. At every turn, just when you think things couldn't get any worse for Harry, things turn even grimmer. Even when he seems to have finally met a nice girl she turns out to be his worst temptation.. The final battle was amazing! It certainly won't be another six months before I read the next installment.

In German, the books title should have been "Die Lieder des Erlkönings" (Lieder in plural, there were more than one). Surely you know some one who has one gradeschool years of German? Or you could afford a translator for a four word sentence?Apparently not. The plural of Wolf is Wölfe. In chapter 27 DIE Erlking is mentioned. Singular, nominative, feminin. I Wonder that the Erlköning let Harry live.And we have "The word by Heinrich Kemmeler". Harry reads it. And the you realize that it would probably have been in German. But instead of going back and fix this in some belivable way, you just say that Lasciel translated it. Really? She was caged right then.Otherwise, I recommend this, one of the better ones.Oh, the book? " Das Wort, von Heinrich Kemmeler".

I'm old. And I've read thousands of books. This is the best series of its kind. It keeps me up reading. It has me reaching for my kindle when I get up. I made my husband drive the car so I can read. If I'm awake, the phone (kindle) is in my hand or nearby. Nothing gets me upset. I'm too into the series to waste psychic energy or any other kind of energy when I could be reading. Seriously good writing. Lots of humor that has me chuckling along. Increasingly complex and thoroughly believably plot. Butcher doesn't think obtuse is necessary for complex plotting. And when the writing is this good, there is NO NEED for obtuse. I think I'm in love. And I'm not halfway through the series. YES!

I am the happy owner of nine of Bradt's Wildlife guides, and this one covering Sri Lankan Wildlife is one of the best. I spend two weeks visiting some of countrys best nature parks and found this guide most useful. It is in a handy field format covering most of the wildlife you are likely to see on this amazing island, even with a chapter of the underwater world. Love how this book is set up! I used this book for my Medication Aid class and am now using it for my Pharmacy Tech program. The amount of information you can find is so useful and this book has so many uses.

This is the 2nd time I have rented this book, the first time it was in excellent condition. I re-rented this and this book is in horrible condition. The front cover is about to fall off and it's wrinkled and stained.

good reference book for the class I teach

Needed this textbook for a med aide class. It was easy to use and helped me get through the course. Shipping was quick

No nice condition for a used book with the exception of the pages for chapter review missing for most chapters. Thank God, my instructor decided not to grade those. The book is rather decent for my CMA class. I actually us this book compared to my CNA textbook which wasn't worth the paper it was printed on
